Nelson-based cidermakers, Old Mout Cider, have put their money where their cider goes and are proudly supporting The Mainland Easiyo Tactix in this year’s ANZ Championships.

The season kicks off at 7.20pm on Sunday 24th March with a match against Waikato Bay Of Plenty Magic at Nelson’s Trafalgar Centre.

Old Mout Cider has been making the good stuff since 1947 in Nelson’s Redwood Valley, and is staunchly local and supportive of the region.

“Our fruit is sourced locally, we crush it locally and we turn it into cider right here on-site at the edge of the Moutere hills”, commented Justin Hall, Managing Director and Chief Cider Lover of Redwood Cider Co, producers of Old Mout Cider. “Netball in New Zealand has rapidly gained in popularity over the last few years, and so has the consumers’ preference for cider – so we saw this as a great fit for our brand”, adds Mr Hall.

The Old Mout Cider logo will proudly sit on the uniforms of a number of players and avid fans will be able to enjoy a nice cold Old Mout whilst they support their favourite team.

Old Mout Cider has been the pride of the Nelson region in recent weeks. Its Passionfruit & Cider picked up a gold medal at this year’s prestigious International Brewing Awards held in the UK. And to make their success even sweeter, they were the only cider produced outside of the UK (‘The Home of Cider’) to win gold.

NELSON, February 2013: Nelson-based cidermakers, Redwood Cider Co., continue to prove they are world-class cider producers with their latest win at the International Brewing Awards 2013. They have the distinction of being the only Gold medal-winner for cider from outside of the UK – long considered ‘The Home of Cider’.

Their newest innovation in the Old Mout Cider range, Passionfruit & Cider, took out Gold and was the only medal awarded in the ‘Cider with other fruits, juices or flavours 5.0% ABV* and above’ Category.

More than 45 countries submitted their wares across a broad spectrum of producers from regional micro-brewers to multi-national companies. Of 1000 entries, 96 medals were presented to brewers and cider makers and only four of them were Gold for ciders. Results were announced after a gruelling three-day judging session at the National Brewery Centre in Burton-upon-Trent.

Justin Hall, Chief Cider Lover and Managing Director of Redwood Cider Co., is chuffed that the new addition has been recognised on such a great, international scale. “It’s just tremendous to see the judges’ opinions reflect those of our discerning consumers – and be awarded for it with a golden gong. I know our cider makers are equally as overjoyed so we’ll be having a bit of a celebration with the team.”

Old Mout launched Passionfruit (5.8% ABV) – a blend of crisp apple cider with luscious real Passionfruit wine – to huge local acclaim in September 2012. It’s fast becoming a favourite among fans of the Old Mout range.

The International Brewing Awards, which date back more than 120 years, have had an absence of cider categories for some decades, but reintroduced two for the 2013 awards. The response was massive so there are plans afoot to further develop this aspect of the bi-annual awards for February 2015.

*ABV= Alcohol By Volume

NELSON, September 2012: The summer of cider beckons and Old Mout has answered thecall with a cheeky wee concoction perfectly primed for those lazy, hazy days ahead.

Old Mout (rhymes with fruit) Cider once again brings something a little different and a lot delicious to a grateful crowd; Passionfruit & Cider, a blend of crisp apple cider with real Passionfruit wine (and what a beaut’ Old Mout it is).

To the eye, the colour is light gold with a soft summer haze. The smell is ripe passionfruit meets sweet, tangy tangelo and just a hint of wild flowers. The taste delights with a fine sweet and sour balance in the flighty passionfruit, which is ably supported by the well-rounded apple.

“We’re never short of new cider suggestions and Passionfruit has been one that’s popped up time and time again through our community of Cider Lovers, so we’re pretty chuffed to be bringing it to the market for Summer 2012/13”, says Chief Cider Lover and MD of Old Moit Cider, Justin Hall. “It’s the best way to enjoy Passionfruit – without the pips!”

Old Mout continues to be the local innovators of fruit ciders; using the best fruit, as often as possible from the Nelson region, to craft something truly enjoyable for a variety of tastes and occasions.

Old Mout Passionfruit & Cider (5.8 % alc/vol) will be available at selected supermarkets and various liquor outlets across New Zealand from October with an RRP of $11.99 for the 1.25L PET bottle, and in selected bars and restaurants in 330ml bottles.
